Brixham is a walker’s paradise, offering a range of walks that showcase its breathtaking coastal beauty. With its dramatic cliffs, picturesque beaches, and tranquil coves, The South West Coast path provides some of the most scenic walking routes in Devon. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful stroll or a more adventurous hike, Brixham has a walk to suit every level of walker.
One of the best ways to explore Brixham is by following the South West Coast Path, a renowned trail that winds along the South West Coast Path. It offers spectacular views of the sea and Lyme Bay. You can enjoy a short walk from the town centre, which takes you along the coastal path to Berry Head. You’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the cliffs and the bay below. This nature reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike.
Locals' Tip
Brixham Breakwater Lighthouse stands proudly at the tip of the Victoria Breakwater, which extends half a mile to the sea. Built in 1916, the lighthouse stands 6 metres tall and is 9 metres above sea level.
Walking along the breakwater is a delightful experience, offering a fresh perspective of the harbour and town. The breakwater is also a popular fishing destination. Anglers might reel in wrasse, conger eels, mackerel, garfish, bass, pollack, or mullet species.
Another stunning walk is the route from Fishcombe Cove to Battery Gardens, a scenic stretch of the South West Coastal Path that takes you past hidden beaches, including a secluded shingle beach and offers breathtaking views of the coastline. If you’re in the mood for a longer stroll, you can continue your journey from Churston Cove or Elberry Cove, both of which are great spots to relax and take in the sea views.
For a more leisurely option, consider the walk from Broad Sands Beach to Brixham Harbour; this path takes you along the coast, past quiet, unspoiled beaches, and through lovely woodland areas. Along the way, you’ll encounter shingle beaches, stunning views of the harbour, and plenty of spots to enjoy a picnic or a refreshing drink.
No matter where you choose to explore, Brixham’s walks offer a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of this charming seaside town, with dog-friendly beaches, stunning views, and plenty of opportunities to discover its rich history and coastal charm. Here are some of our recommendations.
