Calling all dog lovers and beach roamers! If the idea of a perfect summer day involves wagging tails, salty splashes, and waves crashing beside happy barks, then Brixham should be at the top of your list. Nestled along South Devon’s gorgeous coastline, this beautiful fishing town is more than just boats and fantastic fish and chips, it’s a seaside paradise for dogs and humans alike. So, here are some of our favourite dog-friendly beaches to explore in and around Brixham.

Fishcombe Cove

Fishcombe Cove is a cool and shady spot perfect for a quieter beach experience. Surrounded by trees and tucked into the hillside, this cove feels like a calm oasis. The steps down from Battery Gardens can be a bit steep, so look out for the slope on the other side, but they open up to a tranquil, pebbled beach with gentle waves and even the occasional curious seal. There’s even a cute little café right on the beach during the summer months where you can grab an ice cream, the pup can have a drink, (or a pup-friendly treat), and the whole vibe is relaxed and friendly. It’s a brilliant option for dogs who prefer less chaos and more sniffing around in peace. Located on the South West Coast Path, between Battery Gardens and Churston Cove, it’s the ideal spot for a relaxing day out.

Shoalstone Beach

Now, if you prefer your beach day with a side of amenities, Shoalstone Beach offers a more classic seafront, complete with deckchairs, a saltwater lido (for humans only, sorry dogs!), and a charming little fish restaurant, Shoals . The Shoalstone Car Park is conveniently close, and the views over the bay are spectacular. It’s a great spot to settle in with fish and chips while your pup watches the boats drift by. Situated along the harbour, close to the breakwater, it offers easy access and a great day out!

Churston Cove

Tucked away beneath a woodland trail, Churston Cove is like stepping into a secret paradise. It’s peaceful, pebbly, and the water is so clear you’ll want to jump in too. Dogs are welcome year-round, and although it’s a bit of a hike down from the nearest car park (you’ll find parking near the Churston Court Hotel), the woodland walk itself is part of the magic. It is situated a little further away, on the outskirts of Brixham, nestled between Fishcombe Cove and Elberry Cove, but well worth the visit!

St Mary’s Bay

For those looking for wide open spaces, all year round, St Mary’s Bay is your go-to stretch of sand. It’s big, beautiful, and just wild enough to feel like an adventure. This one’s made for zoomies. Dogs can run free no matter the season, and there’s more than enough shoreline to share. Getting there involves a fairly steep descent via steps from the South West Coast Path, and parking is easiest at Sharkham Point, so bring sturdy shoes, a treat or two for encouragement, and maybe a towel for the sandy ride home. Bonus? The sunsets here are out of this world, and your pup will look extra cute backlit in golden light! It’s close to the town, just south of Berry Head, so ideal if you’re staying locally!

Man Sands

If you’re up for a wilder experience, Man Sands is an off-the-beaten-track beauty. It’s a little more remote, which means fewer people and more freedom for your canine companion. Access involves a decent countryside walk from the National Trust car park nearby, but once you’re there, it’s all wide open skies, dunes, and a sense of peace you just don’t find on busier beaches. There’s no café or loo here – just the sound of the surf and your dog’s delighted gallop across the sands. Bring snacks, fresh water, and maybe a thermos of tea for the humans. It’s less than 2 miles from Brixham, so perfect for those with cars, or who love a scenic walk. There are no facilities, do make sure you bring your own water for your doggie!

So, grab the lead, load up the treats, and get ready to explore Brixham’s best beaches. Your dog will thank you with sandy paws and a very happy snooze on the ride home.
