Escaped from the kids? Left them at home and bought the dog instead? Good idea – Brixham is the perfect getaway for dog owners! The crisp autumn air, stunning coastal views, and welcoming beaches offer the ultimate retreat for you and your pooch. Here’s a guide to some of the best dog-friendly days out, beaches, pubs and restaurants in Brixham where you can unwind and enjoy some quality time together.
Days Out
Dartmouth Steam Railway: Start your getaway with a touch of nostalgia on the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Enjoy the serene countryside views, and perhaps stop by a nearby café for a coffee while your dog enjoys a sniff around.
Brixham Harbour: Brixhams bustling harbour is ideal for a stroll. Wander along the quayside, taking in the maritime sights and the fresh sea air. Your dog will love the chance to explore the lively harbour and interact with other visitors.
Berry Head: For a more adventurous day out, head to Berry Head National Nature Reserve. This area offers stunning coastal views and expansive walking trails. Dogs are welcome on the trails, but be sure to keep them on a lead, especially around wildlife areas. The reserve’s rugged cliffs and open meadows provide a perfect backdrop for a day of exploration and relaxation with your dog.
South Devon Beaches
St Mary’s Beach: If you’re craving a beach day, St Mary’s Beach is an excellent choice. With designated dog-friendly areas, it’s a great spot for both you and your furry friend to enjoy. Play fetch with your dog on the sandy shores, or simply relax and soak up the sun. The beach’s gentle waves and picturesque views create a perfect setting for unwinding with your other half.
Elberry Cove: With designated dog-friendly zones, it’s a great spot for your pooch to run free while you kick back and soak up the autumn sun. Play a game of fetch on the sandy shores or simply take a stroll along the water’s edge. The gentle waves and scenic views provide a perfect backdrop for some much-needed relaxation.
Fishcombe Cove: Another charming spot is Fishcombe Cove, located near Brixham. The shingle beach and surrounding trails offer a quiet retreat where you and your dog can enjoy a peaceful day out. It’s a less crowded alternative to more popular beaches, allowing for a more intimate experience.
Pubs and Restaurants

Shoals: Situated near the harbour, Shoals provides a dog-friendly outdoor space, perfect for enjoying locally caught seafood and the maritime ambience. The Torbay Sole is an excellent change to Dover Sole – we also recommend booking, it’s only small!
Simply fish: A family-run restaurant with roots in the Brixham fishing industry, it’s a lovely, welcoming restaurant with delicious food! It is highly accommodating to dogs, offering water and a designated seating area just for them. We highly recommend their curry, it’s to die for!
The Prince William: Situated on the picturesque Marina in Brixham, with unspoilt views of Brixham Harbour and the surrounding area, this is a great place to go for some pub grub. Dogs are welcome too! It offers a wide variety of classic pub food, as well as excellent local mussels and seafood.
New Quay Inn: Now under new leadership, the New Quay Inn welcomes dogs, offering the perfect atmosphere for drinks and nibbles. Situated in the heart of Brixham, it has an excellent choice of beers and has recently started doing Sunday lunches!
So, pack up your dog’s favourite toys, grab a cosy blanket, maybe the other half, and head to My Brixham Holiday to book your break. You deserve it!
